About Electric Stove Burners
There are two types of electric stove cooktops, which makes changing or fixing your coils
a little more complicated.
There is the coil type, which sets on top of the cooktop and can be easily pulled out and
changed or cleaned. For many years, this is the only type of electric burner you could buy. But then along
came the smooth-top type, which is another story altogether. The smooth-top type of range has the burners
built into the bottom of the smooth-top itself. And then there is the Euro type burner.
Let's look at each of these in a little detail:
Euro-Burners:
These burners are smooth on top and they are solid. These burners are heated by an wire
that is imbedded in the center of the burner. Electricity runs through the wire, heating the solid disk-type
surface. Don't wait for these to glow red hot, like the coil type burner, they won't...but they will get extremely
hot.
As with most burners, they come in six to eight inches in diameter.
Coil Electric Stove Burners:
These burners look like a round piece of metal...something like a big carnival
sucker. The wire that heats these elements runs through the center of the wound metal strips. When the burner is
turned on high, these babies will glow red-hot.
Smooth-top Ranges:
Actually these ranges work off the same principle as the others, only the heat that is
created by the coils travels through a special glass surface. Like the coil-type burners, these too will get
red hot. The nice thing about these is that you have no holes or crevices for food to fall down in, making clean up
easier.
Any of the above types of burners can be replaced. The best way to find replacement parts
is to search online for your parts. There are just too many variables for me to be as specific as I am with the
burner covers and drip pans below.
Burner Cover Sets for Your Electric Stove Burners
I will cover two different suppliers along with their prices and a user review
for each:
Reston Lloyd Electric Stove Burner Covers
You can get a set of 4 burners (two six inch and two eight inch) for from $12-$14 if
you shop online. They have a huge variety to choose from, carrying everything from red, black, black granite and
decorated.
Some people were very unhappy with the quality, however one person did say
this:
"Nice, plain covers that match the "almond" color of our stove. They are exactly what I expected for under
ten bucks and do their job covering the electric burners."
Corelle Coordinates Electric Stove Burner Covers
This set of burner covers comes with two eight inch and two ten inch tin burner covers. These tin burner covers
have are white and decorated with curved lines.
Here is what one user had to say about theirs:
"They're made of thing metal so don't expect anything too strong. I like the pattern and my electric stove
looks a lot nicer with them. The one issue is we keep taking them off to cook and not putting them back."
You can pick these up online for around $14 if you shop smart.
Porcelain Drip Pans
Porcelain drip pans are forever getting crusty and ugly. No matter how hard you try to
keep them clean, there comes a time when they have to be replace.
Range Kleen makes a good variety of these porcelain drip pans and they are rated pretty
high with users. Here is what one user has to say:
"The drip pans are exactly what I expected. I clean them regularly, actually immediately, if needed with a
soap pad, so that nothing will harden. This will keep them looking nice. I had the same kind of drip pans
before...and they served me for many years..."
You can pick these up for around $25, if you shop online.
I hope the information on this Electric Stove Burners web page has been helpful to
you.
